Who’s in the news this week


Welcome to our weekly roundup of employee comings and goings and other people-related news across the home furnishings industry. Here’s the latest:

After securing fresh financing from its lenders in July, Belk Inc. has reconfigured its board of directors. The new members of the board will join Belk CEO Don Hendricks as the company focuses on deepening national brand partnerships, creating a more personalized shopping experience, and further increasing customer engagement, the company announced. The regional department store’s new chairman is Steve Sandove, who served as served as chairman and CEO of Saks Incorporated from 2007 to 2013. He serves on numerous boards and is a founding partner of JW Levin Management Partners, a private equity firm. Also new to the board are:

  • Joel Bines, managing partner of boutique advisory firm Spruce Advisory. He previously led the global retail practice at AlixPartners, a financial advisory and consulting firm best known for its work in the turnaround space.
  • Bob Hull, founder and CEO of Integrity Strategic Solutions, an advisory services firm working with private equity and early-stage firms. He formerly held leadership positions at Shoe Show and Food Lion, and spent nearly two decades at Lowe’s Companies, including 14 years as CFO.
  • Jon Zinman, the managing member of JZ Advisors LLC, which invests in and provides strategic advice for businesses and investors across a diverse set of industries. His more than 17 years of industry experience includes work as an investment analyst specializing in post-reorganization situations and as a restructuring lawyer.

Textile producer Swavelle Group has promoted Erin Tsucalas to the role of vice president of design. In this role, Adler will oversee innovation, creative development and a team of fabric design specialists. Adler joined Swavelle earlier this year as design director with more than 25 years in product development and design for luxury home furnishings, working with brands such as Lexington Home Brands, Ethan Allen and Kravet.

Five influential industry leaders will be inducted into the American Home Furnishings Hall of Fame on Oct. 27 during the High Point Market. Joining the current 134 members of the Hall of Fame are Joseph P. Cory Sr., former chairman of Cory 1st Choice Home Delivery; Thomas Day, designer and cabinetmaker; Steven F. Elton, chief brand curator of Brown Jordan; Bob McCreary, founder of McCreary Modern; and Clarence H. Smith, chairman and CEO of Havertys Furniture.

Four leading designers and tastemakers will take over the Andmore at High Point Market Instagram (@andmorehpmkt) during the fall market with the return of the ‘Market Pros’ program, which will showcase their top product finds and market highlights during the event running from Oct. 26-30. The Market Pros for fall 2024 are:

  • Robin Burrill – Co-owner of Signature Home Services, she is an award-winning kitchen, bath and interior designer with nearly three decades of experience. She has been recognized for her achievements by Kitchen and Bath Design News and featured in publications such as Forbes and Architectural Digest. Burrill is celebrated for her industry knowledge and meticulous approach to design. (@robin.burrill)
  • Lorna Gross – An accomplished interior designer and lifestyle authority, her work has appeared in Architectural DigestVerandaHouse Beautiful and The Washington Post. She has received the Designer of Distinction Award from the American Society of Interior Designers and was named one of eight designers to know in Washington D.C., by Architectural Digest. Gross is also the author of the new book Entertaining by Design. (@lornagrossdesigns)
  • Natalie Papier – Based in Charlotte, N.C., she is an interior designer, art curator and TV personality. A host of Magnolia Network’s Artfully Designed, Papier’s focus is on creating homes that reflect the personalities of those who live in them.   • Anitra Terrell – Founder of Reflektion Design, she collaborates with artisans from East and West Africa to create sustainable home décor. Her work celebrates African craftsmanship, and she is the creator of the YouTube series How We Live, which explores homes featuring African diaspora art.
